Iona from New Life classes explores what happens in early labour

This short session explores what happens in early labour - or the latent phase of labour, and some coping strategies that will keep you at home until it is the right time to go to your chosen birth unit (which may still be at home!) It covers:

  • Early signs you're in labour
  • What happens when your waters break
  • The benefits of staying at home in early labour
  • When to contact your midwife

We are really pleased to have teamed up with New Life to provide a FREE antenatal course. New Life antenatal classes are taught by midwifes and offer 21 hours of online classes (and a 2 hour reunion) with 5-10 couples in your local area.

This FREE antenatal course is made up of seven x 10 minute video classes on the following topics:

S1 – Things to think about in your third trimester

S2 – Early labour and coping strategies

S3 – What to expect from established labour

S4 – Planning for the unexpected

S5 – Feeding your baby

S6 – Looking after your mental health and wellbeing as a new parent

S7 – Newborn health and wellbeing

Alongside these seven videos, there are some bonus videos and free downloads that will help you as you get ready for your baby’s arrival. For example, a list of birth positions to practice, a birth plan template and birth bag packing list to name a few.
