What better reason to reinvent your wardrobe than a total change in body shape? And we mean much more than snapping up a great maternity bra. Now is your big chance to reinvigorate your wardrobe with a few maternity essentials that suit your new shape.

Here’s five ways to be a super stylish (comfy) mum-to-be.

1.  Belly belts and bump bands rule!

You can wear your favourite trousers for longer by attaching stretchy belts and fabric panels to the waistband - you’ll get 18cms of extra bump space! Or try a bump band to bridge the gap between trousers and top. There’s a huge range of colours to choose from too.

2.  Terrific trousers

Cool maternity jeans must be the greatest invention of all time! Finding the right ones means bending, stretching, sitting and walking in them to make sure they don’t ride up or slide down. Many stores sell them, but Topshop has got to be our fave.  Leggings are just as fab, worn under tunic tops or dresses. The only danger of all this comfort? When you’ve sampled elasticated waists, can you ever go back?

3.  Dresses and tunics

A real fashion win for mums-to-be are tunics - you'll find them at M&S, but check out the selection in H&M's MAMA collection too. Another must-have is the knee length, soft jersey dress. Pick a wrap or empire line style which will work as your bump gets bigger, and dress it up with killer accessories for a smart, glam look.

Wrap-around cardies

A gorgeous wrap around cardi is cosy, chic and works over everything, from day dresses to jeans and t-shirts.

5.  Funky flats

Pregnancy is no time for high heels, but fashion flats come to the rescue – check out Clarks, Marks & Spencer, Footglove and Hotter.
