The top 3 spots remain unchanged with Oliver still holding on to Number 1, closely followed by Harry holding on at position 2 and Jack at 3.

Just holding on in there, yet once top of the charts Freddie is now at 9 and Oscar at 10.

Highest climbing baby boys names for 2018

Heading up the popularity stakes we see the once unusual boys’ name Arlo up 18 places to position 42. Rory is also on the rise up 19 places to 46 and Grayson has climbed a huge 37 places to break into the top 100 at 93.

Is there a new trend emerging in boys names?

Traditional ‘old man’ names continue to inspire parents with names such as Albert rising 18 places to 65 and Sonny is a new entry into the top 100 up 13 places to 91. Theodore too is up 11 places to 60.

More unusual names that are rising through the ranks include Hunter up a huge 34 places to 32 and Reuben up 13 places to 50. Ezra, possibly inspired by singer George Ezra, has also gone up by 11 places to position 77 in the boys Top 100 baby names.

Baby boys names on the decline

Once considered ‘edgy’, some unusual names are significantly dropping in popularity - making them a good choice if you’re looking for something less common. For example, Rocco has dropped 51 places and is only just within the top 200 boys’ names. Ashton has fallen from favour along with Evan and Zack.

Likewise, there are some traditional names that have significantly lost their popularity and would be a good choice if you’re looking for a traditional name that your little boy won’t need to share with several other classmates. For example, Ben has dropped 31 places and is now an outsider as the 100th most popular name as well as Spencer and Nathan falling more than 20 places each at number 176 and 104.
