babys first christmas

Your baby’s first Christmas is a magical time, and choosing the perfect present will help make it even more special. It can be quite tricky to know what to buy, as your baby will be too young to remember what you give them and they will be growing fast. We do however have a few gifting ideas that your baby will love and treasure for many years to come.

An engraved Christmas decoration

Decorating the house and putting up your Christmas tree is a tradition that gets everyone into the festive spirit. There are so many beautiful Christmas decorations on the market that you could buy, but getting one that is engraved with your baby’s name and the year of their first Christmas is even more special. In years to come when you’re preparing your house for Christmas you’ll be able to get out the decoration and remember that special moment. Perhaps when your baby is grown up they will keep it to use on their own trees and the tradition can live on.
Christmas outfit

A fun and inexpensive present to give your baby at Christmas is a cute outfit to wear on the day. Although they won’t remember it, you’ll certainly be able to take some cute pictures! Most retailers start selling festive outfits from the end of November and we’re sure that once you start looking you’ll be coming home with more than one!

Put money in their savings account

If you’re still not sure about buying a present, a forward thinking gift could be to open a savings account for your baby and to put money into it. Although you might think it’s a bit boring, investing in your child’s future over time will be something you’ll be happy you did, and might even build up to a lump sum that you can give them at a milestone birthday.

A silver coin for the year they are born

Although they won’t appreciate this when you give it to them on the day, this is a present that will stand the test of time. As well as being a precious item, you’ll be able to get one for the current year which will make the present personalised. You can find these by searching and ordering online.

Personalised name book

There are quite a few of these type of books on the market at the moment all with different stories, so it’s worth looking around online to find the one you want with a festive feel. You can start reading the story to them from day one, and it’s also something you may want as a keepsake for when they’re older.

A piece of jewellery

Giving your baby a piece of jewellery will be something for them to treasure when they get a bit older. To give the gift a personalised touch you could get their name engraved on a necklace or choose a piece which features their birthstone.

Soft toy

Although not a very unique present, you could buy a soft toy or comforter for your baby to play with either now or when they get a bit older and online retailers have soft toys which you can embroid with your baby’s name or initials. Another idea is to get a signature Harrod’s bear for the year that they are born to make the gift a bit more special.

A book of letters

Getting your close friends and family to write a letter to your baby for them to open in the future could be a preferred sentimental gift you opt for. It may be the case that some of these people aren’t around when your baby turns 18 or 21, so having this gift to open will be for them, priceless.

A cute bib

Another fun present is to get a bib for your baby to wear at the table during Christmas dinner. You can get one’s personalised with your baby’s name, or even just ‘My first Christmas dinner’ would be really cute.

A photo album

Your baby might be quite young at the time of their first Christmas, but nevertheless it will be a good time to start taking and collating photos of your baby to put in an album to give to them when they are older. If you’re baby is a bit older you could use this album to collate photographs of your baby’s first year.
