When it’s time to start weaning your baby, it’s fine to feed them in a bouncy seat to start with, but you’ll need to invest in a high chair as they get bigger. There’s a huge choice on the market ranging from very inexpensive models to those that ring in at over £200 (yes really), but try and think practically about your budget before you choose one purely for its appearance.
What to look for
Lack of space is often an issue in modern homes, so a folding highchair is a good idea, or look for a model with a smaller footprint. Many high chairs have storage pockets or baskets too, which create handy extra areas for storing items such as toys. If money and space is really tight, choosing a portable seat that can be strapped onto a dining chair could be another good option.
Need to know
Look for a highchair that’s easy to wipe clean and avoid anything with lots of nooks and crannies for food to get lodged into and fabric covers that aren’t washable. Some models have trays that can be removed and put in the dishwasher to make your life easier.

At a pretty unbelievably low price, this budget-busting model by Swedish brand Ikea takes some beating. It comes with an integral harness, and you can also invest in the tray for another £4, or use it at the table for family mealtimes. It’s easy to clean, too.

Suitable from six months to around three years, this light and portable booster seat is the ideal buy for smaller than average homes, where storage space is at a minimum, or for taking on trips away from home. The tray is removable, and there are three height adjustments for your growing child.
