An increase in child benefit payments has been announced by HMRC.

Millions of families will welcome the increase that will begin in the new financial year and paid from 11th April 2022.

How much more will you receive?

The new payments 2022/23 will be:

Eldest or only child: £21.80
Additional children: £14.45

Current payments:
Eldest or only child: £21.15
Additional children: £14.00

The increase works out to be 65p extra for eldest children and 45p for additional children each week which means your monthly payments increase to £87.20 for the eldest or only child and £57.80 for your additional children.

How to claim?

It is important that you claim Child Benefit as soon as possible after the birth of your child as Child Benefit can only be backdated 3 months.
If you are not able to register the birth of your child because of COVID19, don’t worry, you can still claim Child Benefit. Just add a note with your claim. You can find a copy of the Child Benefit form in the Bounty pack or on GOV.UK.

If you already claim Child Benefit for another child, you can complete the form or claim over the telephone on 0300 200 3100. You’ll need your National Insurance number or Child Benefit number.
