Early pregnancy

Congratulations on finding out you're expecting a brand new family member

You need to know this

In the first few weeks you will likely have a range of pregnancy symptoms as your body adjusts and prepares for your baby. The early signs of pregnancy will vary from person to person with many not experiencing any changes until they miss a period.

Some common pregnancy symptoms that you can expect to experience include tingling nipples as blood supply increases (much the same as pins and needles), spotting and cramping, feeling nauseous or being sick, tender and swollen breasts and other symptoms including increased sense of smell and cravings.

These are all normal and to be expected and many will pass or vary in degree as your pregnancy develops. If you want to learn more about what you can expect in the coming weeks have a look through the pregnancy week by week section where you can find out how your baby is developing and how your body is changing. You might also want to start thinking about your diet through the pregnancy to ensure you’re as healthy as possible for you and your baby.

The early signs of pregnancy are very common and you shouldn't be worried about them. Instead embrace them as part and parcel of being pregnant and the start of your baby’s growth and development.
